What does Healthy Living mean? When I Googled “Healthy Living”, I got 79,000 hits. This is a staggering sum. The large number of sites available confirms the national trend of living in a healthy way. Great, but how do you come about it? How do you go from a food junkie or couch potato to a lean, strong and chiseled physique? First of all, being healthy does not necessarily mean you should be skinny as a bean pole. It means just that – to be healthy. Remember that Rome wasn’t build in a day so neither is your health. It takes a long-term commitment over the rest of your life. Start slow, then build up. There are various steps you can take right now, this minute to start making today better and healthier than yesterday and usher the way for even healthier living tomorrow. Here are our Top 5 steps.

Diet

People hear the word diet and automatically panic. They think that diet means that they will be deprived of certain foods and that they must go hungry. There are hundreds of diets out there ranging from the Tibetan Monk diet to, Keto, Blood Type, you name it. We believe that dieting does not mean avoiding eating certain foods but rather about being aware of the food consumption choices you make. Try the following tips:

  • Change your mindset. Do not cast blame on yourself for not eating more vegetables. Simply eat as much as you can whenever you can. Make better choices every day.
  • Remove junk food from your pantry and fridge. Buy healthy snacks and food.
  • Eat slowly. Practice mindful eating. Chew more and savor your food. Which means no TV while you’re eating.
  • Vary your veggies and fruits. Go for color. Think of the rainbow. The more colors the better.
  • Take supplements. Try turmeric, moringa, omega-3. Any of these will help with overall well-being and help you lose weight. For more information, check out our Research Verified Review here. Another supplement you could try is MCT oil. Created by using a blend of C8 (caprylic acid) and C10 (capric acid), this flavourless oil is designed to add a spring in your step in the morning or when you need an extra boost of energy.

Assess your Health

It’s also of vital importance to assess your health status.

  • Make appointments with your doctor and dentist and get checked out.
  • Get all your immunizations in order. Make sure you have not missed any (even the ones from childhood).
  • Weigh yourself and check your BMI to see if you’re overweight.
  • Assess your physical activity. Try to gauge how much you actually do in a typical week and how intense it is?

Exercise

This a no brainer, we all know we need exercise in our lives. Exercise does not mean joining a gym and being there 24/7. It means moving more every day. Make it fun. Go on a hike, walk with friends, take a pole dancing class, just enjoy whatever you’re doing. A good way to make time and have no excuses is to make a date for it. Schedule it in your daily ‘To Do’ list.

Sleep

Who couldn’t do with more sleep? Make it a priority. Go to bed early and at a set time. Gradually, your internal clock will adjust. Also try to remember not to watch TV or use the computer two hours before bedtime. They are stimulating and the light they emit causes your brain to think it is daytime. If you have trouble sleeping try taking a hot bath. That will raise your core body temperature, but will fall as soon as you get out, which may help you sleep more soundly. If that doesn’t help try drinking hot milk with turmeric or chamomile tea.

Break Bad Habits

Finally, if you smoke, drink constantly or take drugs or have any other addictions of any kind stop. You don’t have to do it cold turkey but do stop. Get professional help, join a support group or get patch, whatever works for you.

There's nothing better than a weekend spent at a spa and total relaxation and happy thoughts is a way of life to me. It's lucky I love cats really with a name like mine! Happily married with my three fur babies to keep us company.
